Your bias and bias wrecker & the K-pop Vocabulary

In a k-pop group, each member has a position in the group and of course his own personality. Most fans will choose their bias based on those two things...

Bias: A bias is the person from a group that you like the most. You usually have a bias in any group whose members you know. A bias is not a fixed person it's okay if that changes every other week or even every other day.

Bias wrecker: A "bias wrecker" is a member who unexpectedly catches a fan's attention and makes them rethink their original bias.

Ultimate bias: Your ultimate bias is the idol you like best of all groups together.

K-Pop  Vocabulary:

If you speak Korean you will quickly recognize all these words. But in the K-Pop industry these words are used very often if you are a long time k-pop fan you will already know them well and have seen/heard them many times.

1) Aegyo: This means super cuteness. Idols often get asked to showcase their 'aegyo' on variety and talk shows, and it's usually funnier when it's a serious idol softening their image. It can involve anything from singing children's songs to imitating popular dances.

2) Age line: This refers to idols born in the same year. For example: BTS' Jungkook and GOT7's Yugyeom are both '97 liners.

3) All Kill: This is when a song takes the number one spot on all eight Korean music charts. It's pretty difficult to accomplish as some of those charts are updated hourly. It's a massive achievement for any idol group who gets an all-kill.

4) Anti- Fan: Shortened to anti, this simply means someone who hates a particular celebrity.

5) Beagle line: The members of an idol group who are the most playful and/or loud, not unlike an actual beagle.

6) Comeback: When groups release new music, it's called a comeback. It's basically the same as any other music group releasing a new album. A comeback is usually a multi-step process with teaser images and videos, tracklists and sometimes even pre-album single releases all playing a part.They also often have a concept or theme that the group sticks with throughout their promotions.

7) Daesang: A daesang is the highest award an idol can receive. They're usually in categories such as Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Artist Of The Year and focus on sales.

8) Fan- Chant: Words shouted by fans during performances. They usually include naming all the members of a group during the intro to their song, and then repeating specific words or lines throughout.

9) Hwaiting: Sometimes also translated to "fighting" it's a phrase of support, cheering someone on.

10) Killing part: This is usually the part in a song fans have deemed to be the best part. It can apply to the music or the choreography and it could be anything from a key change to a bass drop, or a particular gesture in the dance.

11) Music shows: These programs are where idols perform their music for the public. It's usually when fans get their first look at the choreography for a song, and depending on the group, they may perform multiple times in one episode. The most popular shows include M! Countdown, Music Bank, Music Core, Show Champion, The Showand Inkigayo.

12) Sub-Unit: This is a smaller K-pop group within a big idol group. It gives specific members a chance to showcase certain talents or to try different genres of music. For example, big groups like SEVENTEEN have vocal, performance and rap units who release music separately to give each member a chance to shine.

13) The Big 3: These are the so-called major three entertainment companies in Korea, though it's very much open to interpretation. JYP Entertainment, SM Entertainment and YG are considered the top three agencies and they are home to some of the most successful acts in K-pop history.

14) Trainee: Before idols become idols, they're trainees. Entertainment companies scout for talent and then train their recruits to be picture-perfect pop stars. The programs are rigorous and intense, and some idols train for several years before being placed in a group. Training covers everything from singing and dancing to learning new languages.

15) Weekly idol: This tv show has recently undergone a revamp that's caused a drop in its popularity but it was previously considered the ultimate variety program for idols to showcase their funnier sides. It's a treasure trove of gags, games and challenges, with almost every idol you could imagine having appeared on it.
